the day started peaceful enough,a quiet morning by the frosty river.
a dipper is a little bird you can spot by the Welsh rivers and streams,
bigger than a robin, brown with a white brest
it can walk under water, hence its name..
driller,oil on canvas 8x11"
fancied something different in the afternoon...
lots of interested passers by...
the workers came over, what a noise!
i asked the work man how long they would be...
an hour till dark was the reply
after my easel was set up,
the digger promptly drove off,eek!
luckily it came back after 15 mins.

Sjeesus, the Driller is just awesome.
fuzzy where its needed and sharp where it has to be.
lovely yellow glow in the background and the
suggestion of dust, ... well done!
The first one is on home ground so to speak, also very good, but then
again you may expect it from you for that matter.
The last one I find it the lesser one. but then again three in a row, can't be
all toppers can it?
A hell of a day Rob, and what a rewards (pray) you took home, ... a good hunt!
What a productive day, Rob! These are really nice! I especially like the Dipper. I saw a dipper in a rocky mountain stream in the western US several years ago. They are fascinating little birds. And your painting is wonderful! Hope tomorrow is as good.
Wonderful paintings - I love the first one best.
Splendid paintings, all three. You sure know how to get light and atmosphere in there. Brilliant!
Fabulous, Rob! You recent winter paintings are so great and here with the digger and the driller you have done such a good job. The old carriage is also a favourite of mine.
Yeh, the digger and the driller are special especially the latter. It's that dust combined with snow feeling, so much atmosphere. Now, I am trying to find the Dipper. Am I being a bit thick? Perhaps he has dipped under the water.
rene,
i'm surprised i got any straight lines at all, with that driller going for it,the ground was shaking
so was my brush,so was the painting,it was so noisy,at times i was thinking what the hell was i thinking!
ann,
a day like this once a week maybe,
couldn't pull of three every day.
glad you spotted a dipper too, they are so fast!
thanks cara
there's something for everyone,me thinks
light is what is all about...for me,
thanks sharon!
exquisite! I hope you do more big machines!
I really like the first one... what a great story about the workmen...did they bring you coffee and sarnies too? I really like your paintings and have looked at your blog often
vive la seasons
i love painting winter stefan
the air is so fresh, shadows long and full of color,
the machines were a welcome challange too
thanks!
the dust was easy sheila, just didn't paint that part of the canvas...
Perhaps he has dipped under the water...got it!
only put the name dipper there to link the three paintings,digger,driller....
hi celeste, plenty of machines on my car blog, hehe
but yes would love to more like this...cheers
no,no treats maggie
but one wanted to buy the last one,
wich was a nice compliment, cos when i started they thought i was mad...me too!
thanks for your kind words, really appreciate them...
Hi Rob. All three are really good, although I like the "Driller" the best. That mound of carnage it sits upon, with the sharp edges and suggested 'stuff', is really nicely done.
hi bill,
it was a matter of simplify, squint, simplify with a few sharp edges thrown in
I love "Driller." You really get a sense of action with the dust cloud-always such wonderful atmosphere in your paintings!
couldn't miss the action, standing next to these machines leslie
the dust was the fun bit!
thanks
Rob--
These are great! You've made unusual subject matter look beautiful. Happy holidays.
thank you very much paulie
and ofcourse all my best wishes to you too, enjoyed reading a bit of your blog...
I love the digger and driller! Really nice lost and found edges too
Ryan
thanks ryan
that is one of the nice thing about these subjects, different edges
happy new year mate!
I love the outside two but the middle one won't load - you wouldn't think a digger would make a great subject but this is not the first successful tackling of it have seen.. I guess its because of the destruction you have to have before something new can be made - maybe... well whatever it is I find them surprisingly moving.
hi jane
i'm sorry i had responded a few days ago but the message is not here...
anyway i said that everything is fair game for a subject,it is not what but how you paint it...but i guess you know that!
