That certainly is a bit different to daffodils and leafy lanes! I thought it was in the Rhondda at first. You've done a good job, as usual. I like the sense of sunlight filtering through smoke.
Rob--what a great painting! Reminds me a bit of Monet's Train station painting. Beautiful colors and mood and you captured the lighting perfectly. Glad I caught up with your more recent posts, too--I hadn't visited in a while. Must be getting really beautiful there now.
i like a lot of different scenes rene, they are just not always next door... have you ever been to Luik? just your kind of city, could not be greyer, hehe
You've done a great job on this one Rob. Wow. It is a change from most of what I've seen you do lately. The light and subtle values and grays really works for me in this one. The small version makes it look like a larger piece. It is great when an artist can turn something "ugly" into a beautiful painting.
Frank, painters who turn something ugly into something beauty must be the biggest romanticists... i wanted to paint something different from pretty spring pictures and what do i end up with?
Well, it is about as different as you can get from the "pretty" spring pictures. In painting terms, I think there is a big difference between "pretty" and "beauty".
very interesting Rob, I don't think I've seen you pull one of this subject matter. Excellent drawing and composition to my eye. Also very convincing light radiating around the billowing smoke stacks. I'd say you might want to try more like this?
Frank i'm just wondering out loud, trying to find the point of finding beauty into ugly things while there is so much beauty around anyway, maybe i have to try and paint an ugly painting of an ugly subject to find out...

This painting works so well on so many levels that it's just one of your best.

hi Michael,i will try more,in the end it is painting the light on subjects not the subjects them self that occupy me...thanks!
Oooh, I love this one! You gave the industrial scene the same back-lighting and mood as many of your landscapes; it is an excellent painting.
thought you might like it Lesley...
thanks for letting me know
That's beautiful. I love industrial scenes. Great job, Rob
thanks Mary,i think a nocturnal one would be good too,who knows? one day!
