The late Zoltan Szabo (watercolourist extraordinaire)once told me the cross is the most powerful of all symbols; the reason for this is not it's religious implications as first may be thought...it is because the negative space of the cross symbol forms 4 arrow shapes all pointing towards it's centre. I found this most interesting, and have found since that whenever I have created a crossed shape (accidentally or on purpose) within a painting it does command attention. Point in case, your painting here. It is powerful, and a little unsettling too.

yup,the cross was around long before christianity claimed it.
i agree it is one of the most powerful symbols, together with the circle.
i don't know why it is unsettling to you,but i like that it does!
