little stream

oil on panel 8x10"

our painting class was blessed
with some welcome sunshine
so we spend the morning
by the calming sounds
of the stream and the birds

you can see the progress of the classes here

Those greens in your painting are fantastic--! Your painting has just the perfect amount of information. Beautiful! Thanks for including a photo from the spot too..an extra bonus..it's such a pretty place. :)

thank you celeste
i'm a bit dissapointed with how the greens came out in the scan, they should be more varied, never mind ,it is good to share

Astonishingly beautiful. At once exciting and peaceful. If you don't mind, this image will reside on my monitor for a while :)

Thanks for including the photo. It showed me how you altered the colours to make the painting so much more exciting, something I still struggle with. Beautiful painting.

sure dar,enjoy!
and thanks

i didn't edit the colors to much bonnie, blame the difference on my scanner...the scene was exciting enough, with the early light and long shadows...

very atmospheric rob: i am often frustrated by the resulting photo of a painting as they rarely match the original and often some colours are quite jarring on the screen. but this is beautifully done. how do you paint and teach?

It doesn't look a very interesting subject in the photo, but you've made a beautiful painting of it.

You really caught the glow from the sun in this painting. I particularly like the way the stream leads into the painting and the trees and fence keep me looking around.

Wasn't it a glorious day! Your painting says it all. Beautiful. x

yes rahina it can be frustrating
sometimes the picture even looks better than the painting...but never the same.
how do i teach and paint?
i teach by example...
hope that doesn't sound arrogant

well keith you probably know, one of the hardest bit is finding the right subject, spot, light atmosphere etc
and with a large group,it is even harder,so we were pleased with this little scene, mind you in holland they would die for a bit of nature like this...

that was the idea kim...you are a good student! hehe

Hi there Mate!.... Yegads!.... Greens???? Only in salad bowls here!HAHA!! Just got another 10cm of snow here over the weekend! going to be a while till we see what you have there!

In any event... a lovely plein air sketch... very painterly treatment and great atmosphere! You have certainly captured that first fresh sigh of Spring!

Good Painting!
