Goeie genade!!

Unbelievable Rob, ...

The point of view on the painting is much lower, ... did you sit down while sketching it?

This one is going on the desktop!!

hi Leslie!
i'm surprised how detailed the chicken looks,it was just a few strokes,i'm fascinated how the light shines through those red bits on top

Your chickens are great, it must be so much fun to watch them.

But what really makes this painting so wonderful to me is the light, as in all your work. Great stuff!

The light gives atmosphere to the chicken yard. I just feel like I am with the chickens early in the morning and one is eyeing me in hopes of some grain. I enjoy seeing your easel set up with the chickens. Wonderful. Also, thanks for your thought provoking comment on my blog.

my pleasure Diane,
yes the light is my main focus, the rest sort of just falls into place...

Hey Rob

You captured the character of the chickens in this I like the positioning of them that shows they didn't keep still!

Awesome chickens and you got right in there with them which is the way to do it. A painter I admire told me long ago that to paint cows you need to be standing in cow shit ;)
I am linking you through your car blog. I have lots of car fans in my life and they would really appreciate the paintings

rob ijbema said...

thanks for the link Mary, hope your friends enjoy the car paintings, lots of Nascar!
you are right about standing in the middle of it,that is why plein air is such a good experience...
i shall link you too.

Rob, very very nice. I don't know how you managed doing such a great job of the chickens from life... they are fabulous. There is something very working in this piece that I can't say specifically.. but you've done it!

rob ijbema said...

if we knew Michael,we would be doing master pieces all the time, and that's not going to happen,up and down,up and down, all we can do is keep looking, keep trying...but the winter light surely helped...
