we only had one rainy day for four weeks! Not like Wales at all...
early bluebells,oil on canvas 12x16"
Evening mountain lake,oil on panel,5x8"
had only one hour to paint this, before the sun went down, this is high on the hills unusual for bluebells to grow without tree cover

oooooooow do i love your plein air work Rob, I don't get it why you paint those cars although there are wonderful too but your plein air work tops it really off
And you are able to capture the light! I like the quick one very much. So you see what you are capable of when you are under pressure. Cheers...Nue
you are very kind,rene,
painting is painting...and i have been fascinated by racing cars since i was a kid,i painted them before i painted trees...
yes stefan,it can be good to paint without thinking to much, sometimes
you get really into it,had to tear myself away when it got to dark to paint.
Hi Rob,
Really enjoying your spring paintings of the landscape of wales. Gorgeous.
also, I was wondering if you can take a picture of your set up for plein air...your easle, paintbox, and stuff please?... I'm interested in putting together a little plein air kit for myself as I only have awkward big easles and palettes in my studio...i want to figure out what might work best for me...and would like to see what other artists use. Thanks in advance.
hi sally,i enjoyed painting them,i'm glad it came across...
as for my set up,less is more,i use a special pochade box, similar to the L-easel or easy easel(these boxes are expesive!)specially made by a Dutch friend, you can see it here...http://paintingwalesdiary.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_archive.html...put on a sturdy, light tripod.
i also use a little converted box for in the car,in case the weather is to bad...http://paintingwalesdiary.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html...
i only use a few brushes and a limited palette,Ultra m. blue,Aliz. crimson, cad med. yellow, lemon yellow and white ofcourse.bit of mineral spirit an old rag,and i'm ready to go
